Behold The Lamb Of God

John 1:29 "…BEHOLD! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

THE POWER OF THE LAMB OF GOD
(BEHOLD FROM THE BOOK OF REVELATION)

NOTE THE PERFECT ORDER HOW ONE FOLLOWS THE OTHER AS THEY APPEAR IN REVELATION!

1. THE AUTHORITY OF THE LAMB: 5:4-7 The Lamb alone has the authority to open the scroll and bring judgment upon this evil world because of His shed blood. Read John 5:22. And what comes with that authority is scary...

2. THE WRATH OF THE LAMB: 6:16 His wrath is fearful. It abides on every unbeliever (John 3:36). The Tribulation will know the fullness of that wrath in the whole world. How can an unbeliever escape this wrath that abides on him - the answer is the following…

3. THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB: 7:14 When we receive the Lamb’s blood sacrifice we then need assurance that we truly belong to Jesus. The Holy Spirit who abides in us assures us that our names are written in the following...

4. THE BOOK OF THE LAMB: 13:8 With that awe inspiring truth that our names written in His forever book our hearts will want to sing a love song to Him in the following…

5.  THE SONG OF THE LAMB: 15:3  Out of deep love for the Lamb we have a song in our heart of joy. We can't help ourselves (Psalm 98:1) and six times in the Psalms we are directed to sing a "new song" to Him, once in Isaiah and twice in Revelation. With this great joy comes an overwhelming desire in our spirit and soul for a close one on one relationship of love with the Lamb, and to meet that driving spiritual need comes the following...

6. THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB: 19:7 Intimate love begins and grows deeper and deeper. We feel those strong in the Bridegroom, spiritually hugging our soul. We are so thrilled we want to run out and share with others who love the bride as deeply and fervently, so Jesus arranges for all of us to come together at the following...

7. THE SUPPER OF THE LAMB: 19:9  With this wonderful unity of the whole bride together sharing with each other the glories of their Bridegroom, there arises in their redeemed hearts a great need to worship Him as one bride, bowing at His feet pouring out streams of living, loving worship at the following...

8. THE THRONE OF THE LAMB 22:1 And be forever in His presence to glorify the Lamb of God.

THE PICTURE OF THE LAMB OF GOD
"I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a DOVE and remain on him.”  John 1:32

A GLORIOUS PICTURE OF JESUS – FOR THE DOVE IS A SYMBOL:

1. OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: Isaiah 11:2; Luke 4:14,18; John 3:34 Jesus was filled with the Spirit without
   measure.

2. OF GOOD NEWS: Genesis 8:8-12  The dove brought back “good news” to the ark. Jesus brings the        Gospel to a dying world! THAT IS ULTIMATE GOOD NEWS!

3. OF INNOCENT, HARMLESS: Matthew 10:16  Jesus never sinned, lowly, humble, gentle.

4. OF SORROW:  Isaiah 38:14; 53:3,4; John 11:35;  Luke 19:41 He felt our grief, sorrows and pains .

5. OF SACRIFICE:  Leviticus 5:7;  Luke 2:24 – a sacrifice offered by the poor. Jesus became poor
   (II Corinthians 8:9)

6. OF PEACE AND REST:  Psalm 55:6  Jesus is the One who brings peace and rest (Matthew 11:28,29)

7. HE HAS DOVES EYE FOR HIS BRIDE: “His eyes are like doves By the rivers of waters, Washed         with milk, And fitly set.” (Song of Solomon 5:12). Look into your Lover’s eyes and see the                     reflection of all of the above!!!!

Are you filled with the Spirit’s fruit? Does your walk bring Good News? Let the people see the Gospel of Good News. If a Christian's life is no different than the average unsaved person then we are telling them that the real Gospel does not change you. We are to be "living letters read of men". We are to let our light so shine that they see our good works (Jesus working in us - Philippians 2:12). Are you innocent & harmless walking in a humble spirit? Do you feel sorrow over the hurting? Have you presented yourself as a living sacrifice to Him? Does your temple of the Holy Spirit bring peace and rest to those around you? Do you have dove’s eyes that keep focused on Him all day long?

THE PURSUIT OF THE LAMB OF GOD (John 1:35 – 39)

“Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.” v.35
1. To pursue the Lamb of God we must stop all activity and stand still

“And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" v.36
1. As we stand still, our eyes must be observing Jesus walking. (Ephesians 5:1,2)

2. Note that John does not say, “…who takes away the sin of the world.”
Why? The emphasis in v.29 is salvation and bearing our sin. That is becoming a child of God.
But our goal is to walk as a child of God. The emphasis is keeping our eyes on Jesus!

3. That is how I will truly please Abba Father by walking as Jesus walked. Read Romans 8:28 and 29.
Romans 8:28 is says, “called according to His purpose”. What is His purpose? “To be conformed to the     image of Christ” (filled with the fruit of the Spirit). What better way than to Behold the Lamb of            God walking? I love that old hymn:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
“The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.” v.37
1. They stood still; they beheld; they heard! Oh to truly hear. Jesus pleads with us, "He who has
ears  to hear, let him hear
.”
 (Matthew 11:15). So few do truly hear – their lives are not truly                    changed during the week. John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;

2. Many do not take the final step. They stop; they behold; they hear then close their bibles for                 another week.

Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?" v.38
1. What idol is keeping you from turning? I Thessalonians 1:9 “…how you turned to God from idols to             serve the living and true God.”

2. Yes, it is when we step out to follow that Jesus will give you His attention and will respond. Then         Jesus asks  a very probing question. He asks, “WHAT do you seek.”  So many are seeking things          from Jesus when they decide to follow: a ministry; a position; all the comforts etc. Ah, the two              disciples answered correctly. It is not “things” they were after but Him! They wanted HIM!!! –            their hearts were filled with a desire. John told us He  is the Lamb of God who takes away our sin.        WE NEED TO GET CLOSE TO HIM and to be taught how to really live for the Messiah. They            wanted to follow Him. Jesus said that we cannot be His follower (disciple) if we do not give up the        right to all of our possessions. Are we not to walk like He did being an imitator of God (Ephesians       5:1,2)? He washed Judas' feet.

3. It was not for a moment – THEY WANTED TO KNOW WHERE JESUS WAS STAYING!
They were seeking a relationship not just a moment of curiosity. Few believers seek Jesus. They          seek entertainment in the church; they seek all kinds of programs to get more knowledge of the            Bible; they seek finding social relationships, are seeking the “WHAT” but not “HIM”. John the              Baptist and Jesus taught this Gospel – “repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.”  They were              looking for THE KING and HIS KINGDOM (Matthew 6:33) ARE YOU?  Jesus didn't die to just be      your Savior. He did to be your Lord - King of your life! He transferred us into His Kingdom                  (Colossians 1:13). Where there is a kingdom there is a king and there are loving rules to keep               (1050 in the New Testament). I have file of them available. Do I see how to please the King with my     thoughts, my words, my love, my obedience?

4. They were ready to “grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ…” II Peter 3:18. And that
word for knowledge is “experiential knowledge” not just factual knowledge. So many only grow in         the facts of the Bible. Many dig deep into what the Talmud or Commentaries say. But few are into a     deep walk with the One who’s name is THE WORD OF GOD!  Oh to know Him – Philippians              3:10  “That I  may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being
    conformed to His death.”
That “know” is experiential knowledge AND THESE TWO DISCIPLES
WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER SPENDING ALL DAY WITH JESUS – THEY REALLY
   GOT TO “KNOW” HIM.

“He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and
remained with Him that day.” v.39

1. They stayed, they remained with Him. They were sitting and listening to the Word. When you             open up God’s Word do you realize that you have come to Jesus and are sitting at His feet? Do you       realize that you are fellowshipping with Him.  In Luke 24:27 Jesus said this about the Word of God,    “And  beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things
    concerning himself.”
Is that the reason why you open up the Bible to read or is it just a religious duty.    He says to your heart, “Come and see me today, I have some wonderful things to reveal to your heart about
    myself.”
Psalm 119:18.

2. Oh how Jesus makes it clear. “Come and see” - watch My walk and then you will understand My talk!

PRESENTING THE LAMB OF GOD TO OTHERS
One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone). John 1:40-42

1. When you really get to “know” Jesus you get real passionate about Him. First you sit with Him in         intimate fellowship as did these two disciples. Then you go out and let your relatives see the “glow”     on your face and bring them to Jesus. THEY WERE NEVER THE SAME.  Are you any different           since you made a commitment to the Lord?

2. This is how you “bring” people to Jesus; don’t argue about their lifestyle. Peter was a crude, rude,         big mouth cursing fisherman.  They will see the change in you and know that this Jesus is for real!         The Spirit will convict them.

3. Simon Peter GOT CHANGED RIGHT AWAY – a new name!  A changed name often denoted a          new relationship: Abram to Abraham; Jacob to Israel; Joseph to Zaphenath-paneah; Saul to Paul.

In Revelation 22 we will have His name placed in our foreheads for all the host of heaven to see.        Do people see the name of Jesus written all over our attitudes and actions? Psalm 23 - “He leads us in     the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.”
